The aim of the webinars is to learn about and co-create new, innovative ways of exhibition making, and to explore inventive, imaginative ways to connect books in museum and library collections with modern society in all its diversity and polyphony. Particular attention will be paid to the current global pandemic crisis, how our sector has reacted and how we can use the resources and skills at our disposal to help our audiences overcome the crisis itself and its far-reaching consequences.

22 oktober 2020 | What to tell and how to tell it in a contemporary book exhibition?

The first webinar introduces the new Conference of European National Librarians (CENL) working group 'Books and Audiences'. We will address two pertinent questions of contemporary museums and exhibition practice:

  • exhibition themes relevant to modern society;
  • modern methods of exhibition project management. The British Library, the National Library of Scotland and the National Library of Latvia will be sharing their recent project experiences.

29 oktober 2020 | The future for book exhibitions and their audiences

During this webinar book exhibition professionals from the Royal Danish Library, British Library and other organizations will give short talks on their own experiences during the Covid-19 confinement. Speakers and participants will discuss the possible lasting consequences and new approaches for book exhibitions in the following years. Does the Covid crisis signify the end of the onsite exhibition interactives we have for years been striving to develop? Have any new findings emerged for making books as exhibition objects more attractive to visitors? How will digitally born book exhibitions evolve in a post-pandemic landscape? Come with your own questions and possible solutions to the webinar and together, let us explore how the future of book exhibitions might look.

Praktisch:

In order to gather different experiences of creating book exhibitions in light of the Covid-19 restrictions, and to enrich the content of the webinar, we are inviting colleagues to fill this survey by 15 July 2020: Book exhibitions and their audiences during COVID-19.

Both webinars will be facilitated by Dr Diana Walters, an experienced consultant and project manager in the fields of museology and cultural heritage.

Webinars are organized by the 'Books and Audiences' network of the Conference of European National Librarians (CENL), and made possible thanks to funding from CENL.
