Graduates holding an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in librarianship or information science are encouraged to apply for two internships (traineeships) in the European Parliament Library in Brussels. Internships are paid and last 5 months, starting on 1 March and 1 October each year.

Profile

The work undertaken by an intern in the Library would comprise a mixture of tasks, including the following:

  • duties on the information desk in the Reading Room
  • basic enquiry work
  • cataloguing and indexing
  • contributing to the organisation of events in the Library

Interns receive appropriate training and supervision throughout their time here.

Tasks

Internship Library Reading Room Unit

  • Catalogue maintenance;
  • Collection management, including electronic resources; 
  • Assistance with events held in the Library;
  • Assistance in the management of the Reading Room or assistance with enquiries at the front desk.

Internship Library Unit

Depending on your background and interests, you could participate in a variety of library tasks:

  • Development of online reading platform for citizens;
  • Management of electronic resources;
  • Website maintenance and digital information products development;
  • Assistance in the management of the Reading Room or assistance at the front desk;
  • Contribution to acquisitions, collections (paper and electronic) development and/or cataloguing.
